Red Cross Opens Assistance Center at University Mall

ORANGE COUNTY ANNOUNCES SHELTER TO TRANSITION TO
ASSISTANCE CENTER FOR FLOOD VICTIMS
ORANGE COUNTY, NC (July 5, 2013)—Orange County is announcing that efforts to assist those impacted by the flood will continue as the Red Cross shelter at Smith Middle School transitions to an Assistance Center and moves to a new location.
Beginning on Saturday, July 6, residents displaced by the flood can report to the Assistance Center seven days a week at the University Mall in Chapel Hill. The center will remain open as long as needed and the hours of operation are as follows:
Monday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sunday from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
The Assistance Center will be staffed by the Red Cross, Orange County Department of Social Services, Orange County Housing, Human Relations & Community Development Department, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), and other community organizations. This effort is supported by the Town of Chapel Hill, Town of Carrboro and Orange County.
The local governments and the Red Cross have been working together and around the clock to meet the needs of the residents impacted by the flood. Since Sunday, June 30, no residents in need of assistance have been nor will be turned away.
The purpose of the Assistance Center is to provide impacted residents with a one-stop-shop, where they can receive the necessary resources and immediate assistance that will enable them to recover from this flooding emergency.
To date, the Red Cross has provided the following services:
